Ohio Eye Associates Now Offering Laser Cataract Surgery

Introducing Laser Cataract Surgery

At Ohio Eye Associates, exciting breakthroughs in laser and lens implant technology are allowing our surgeons to take cataract surgery to the Next Level…and allowing cataract patients to enjoy the vision of their youth. Thanks to recent approvals by the FDA and Medicare, ophthalmologists are now abler to offer patients the benefits of Laser Cataract Surgery. When combined with exciting new lens implant technology to improve vision at all ranges and to treat astigmatism, cataract patients at Ohio Eye Associates are seeing better than they have in years.

Not all patients are ideal candidates for Laser Cataract Surgery, which is why additional testing is measurements are taking during your cataract work-up process. “Laser Cataract Surgery is a significant advancement in medical technology and one of the most anticipated breatkthroughs in cataract care in the past decade,” said Dr. Richard Selser. “We’re proud to be among the first practices in the area to offer the added safety, precision and accuracy of Laser Cataract Surgery to people throughout Central Ohio,” he said.

What is the LenSx laser?

The LenSx laser is a Medicare-approved image-guided Femtosecond laser that automates some of the most challenging steps of refractive cataract surgery. This includes making the initial incision during cataract surgery, performing what is called a Capsulorhexis – or opening – in the capsular area where the cataract is located and gently softening and fragmenting the cataract. To help correct corneal astigmatism, the LenSx laser can precisely place surface incisions to reduce and eliminate corneal astigmatism.

Who is a candidate for Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery?

Most patients undergoing cataract surgery today are candidates for Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery. This is especially true for patients with pre-existing Astigmatism, which occurs in the majority of cataract patients. A comprehensive cataract evaluation can determine your candidacy for Laser Cataract Surgery. During your examination with our team of ophthalmologists, we will discuss your surgical options and help you choose the type of cataract surgery that is best suited to your needs and lifestyle.

Is laser cataract surgery covered by insurance?

Although “approved” for Medicare patients, Laser Cataract Surgery is not fully covered by Medicare or the insurance industry. Medicare and/or your insurance provider do cover the majority of the standard costs associated with Laser Cataract Surgery, but additional costs are associated with the LenSx procedure. We offer a convenient no-interest payment program designed to fit most budgets.
